“High-Tech Aging: Improving Lives Today”
“High-Tech Aging: Improving Lives Today” portrays how technologies available today facilitate coordinated care and aging in place. AgeTech West and partners Front Porch, ABHOW, and Intel-GE Care Innovations were among several organizations that provided funding support for the video’s production. The story follows a character named Alma from home to hospital, to rehabilitation and back to home again. Throughout her experience of having and recovering from a stroke, Alma and her caregivers use a seamless suite of personal health technologies and a tablet-based platform to plan her care and communicate with family and care staff to allow her to remain safely at home with support. Technologies incorporated into Alma’s care include a medication dispenser, electronic health records, home monitoring, telehealth, a personal emergency response system with automatic fall detection, and other assistive technologies.
AgeTech West’s executive director attended the premier of the video at an Institute of Medicine workshop on “Fostering Independence, Participation, and Healthy Aging through Technology.” The workshop focused on policy opportunities and barriers to leveraging technology to improve outcomes and facilitate independence and included presentations by LeadingAge CAST’s Majd Alwan, MIT AgeLab’s Joseph Coughlin and others.
AgeTech West is partnering with LeadingAge CAST to leverage the video to educate providers, policy makers and payers on the West Coast.
