Deb Murphy – Chief Executive Officer, MPA, JD

Deb is responsible for the overall management of the association including the development and implementation of its’ strategic vision, supporting programs and alignment of staff and financial resources.  She works to identify opportunities, threats, interests, needs and concerns of members and develops and directs the political advocacy agenda on behalf of members. Deb works in concert with the association’s governing body to establish and frame the association’s strategic direction and works to ensure the board is informed of relevant environmental trends and pressures to enhance sense-making and the positioning of members for success in this dynamic health care field. Deb staffs the Executive and Govern  ance Committees and the Life Plan Communities Cabinet.   DMurphy@LeadingAgeWA.org

Laura Hofmann, MSN, RN – Director of Clinical & Nursing Facility Regulatory Services

Laura brings over 20 years of registered nursing practice in skilled nursing facilities to influence policy on Federal & State clinical activities including assessment, care planning, measuring outcomes and regulatory compliance.  She supports both skilled nursing facility and assisted living members.  Laura has expertise in both federal 5 Star and state quality measures and assists members in understanding areas of clinical focus for improved outcomes and reduced hospitalizations.  Laura assists members to improve assessment and documentation requirements using the MDS or CARES assessment tools.  She also monitors and reports survey trends for members and acts as an intermediary between members and the state quality oversight agency to understand and clarify changes in regulatory expectations, including the new federal Requirements of Participation.  Laura communicates the latest changes in the acute, post-acute and chronic long stay health care environments to members and promotes partnerships with health plans and hospital systems.  She is co-lead on the Nursing Facility Cabinet and is lead on the Workforce Solutions Council finding new and innovative recruitment and retention strategies and promotes policy solutions to grow the talent available in our field.   LHofmann@LeadingAgeWA.org


Christopher Wielga  –  Financial Policy Analyst 

Chris is responsible for developing a Medicaid nursing facility data base using available cost report data and preparing various financial models showing estimated impacts of proposed legislation or other revisions/replacements to both the nursing facility and assisted living payment systems.  At the request of association members, he reviews and recommends modifications to members’ financial reports, including Medicaid and Medicare reports consistent with federal and state law and in coordination with LeadingAge Washington accounting associate business members.  He develops management reports for members using available financial data to identify potential areas to improve payment and operating efficiencies and/or effectiveness; analyzes, responds to, educates and disseminates information on financial issues and makes financial policy recommendations to support access to quality care and services in member communities.  CWielga@LeadingAgeWA.org 


Alyssa Schnitzius  –  Director of Senior Living & Community Services 

Alyssa provides health policy leadership on assisted living, housing and adult day matters impacting members.  In this capacity, she works with various federal and state policy and regulatory decision-makers and is an important member of the Association’s advocacy team both here and in Washington DC.  She works with members assessing and identifying their legislative and regulatory needs, analyzes and communicates legislative and regulatory initiatives, and contributes to our legislative news to engage members in grassroots advocacy.  She builds collaborative relationships among housing communities and service providers to stimulate partnership opportunities and is actively engaged in working with multiple organizations, including our state agencies, to find innovative solutions to advance healthy aging for near poor and poor individuals.  She works to expand the voice of other housing organizations to ensure senior housing needs are not forgotten and is a strong proponent of ending senior homelessness.  Alyssa identifies training opportunities on behalf of our members in support of their service excellence.  Alyssa staffs the Adult Day, Assisted Living and Housing Cabinets.  ASchnitzius@LeadingAgeWA.org 

Pat Sylvia – Director of Education & Member Development

Pat is responsible for conference and event planning and other critical trainings needed to support and advance the work of members throughout the year.  She prepares member education-related communication materials, develops promotional materials for the association, manages website content, and promotes our members and provider partners using social media.  She supports the shared learning experiences of our member professional networks which is critical to their success at all service levels within member communities.  Pat delivers a number of top quality Leadership Management programs for assisted living administrators and staff and for nursing leaders.  She also organizes, promotes and delivers our highly successful Leadership Institute program designed to develop our ‘up and coming’ leaders of tomorrow.  She has been an active participant in the creation of “age-friendly” communities in our state.  Pat staffs the Education Planning and the Member Recognition Advisory Groups and supports all Professional Networks.  PSylvia@LeadingAgeWA.org

Cassi Meritt – Member Data & Services Manager

Cassi primarily maintains and updates our current membership database, including new entries, membership staff changes, record-keeping and creates internal management reports. She manages the education program registration database while assisting the Director of Education and Member Development in the production of materials for conferences and training sessions throughout the year.  She also provides onsite coordination and support for all association events.  Cassi is a key connector for our business partners and provider members to support the sharing of resources and expertise.  CMeritt@LeadingAgeWA.org


Angie Napier – Business Office Manager

Angie provides invaluable support to the operations and needs of the association and works closely with all staff providing necessary support.  Angie maintains the association’s internal documents, such as, Bylaws and Board Policies, Leadership and Handbook, and organizational structure.  She works closely with the Chief Executive Officer providing scheduling and other support.  Angie also supports the accounting functions within the association and prepares the accounts payable and maintains the Group Retrospective Payment Program.  Angie works directly with legislative assistants and our member communities to ensure access to policy-makers when advocating on behalf of seniors.  She serves as administrative support to the Board of Directors and assists members with questions regarding association activities.  Angie builds positive relationships with members through direct daily dialogue and support at LeadingAge Washington events.  ANapier@LeadingAgeWa.org
